*Hand snipping allows you to reach inside the plant to make a proper pruning cut
HAND SNIPPING OPPOSED TO SHEARING
For many years shears have been the popular choice for trimming shrubs. Whether it be a home owner or landscaper shearing is faster, easier and it seems like the logical choice. The problem with electric shears is they can harm your plants. Although shears are good at shaping plants, they can cause damage because they cut the leaves and stems indiscriminately. This makes it difficult for the plant to close the wound properly. Further shearing over the course of several years creates a thin layer of live growth on the exterior which then causes the interior of the plant to die due to shade.

SHEARING WITH ELECTRIC TRIMMERS
Most people don’t realize that shearing although common and easy is not the best way to prune plants. In a perfect world shrub should be pruned in a similar way to tree pruning. This type of pruning or hand sniping is slower and more deliberate but it allows for better pruning wounds. Using by-pass pruners allows you to make accurate pruning cuts. By making proper pruning cuts it allows the plant to close the wounds. This is much better for the plants long term health. Using by-hand snips also allows pruning wounds at varying depth which encourages interior growth. This type of pruning leaves the plant with controlled but a more natural texture.
