Mayer Tree Service Crane Makes Waves at the Blue Finn Blowout Tournament in Gloucester

The salty air of Gloucester Harbor was filled with excitement this July as anglers from across New England gathered for the annual Blue Finn Blowout fishing tournament. Mayer Tree Service was proud to be one of the sponsors for this incredible event and provide one of our cranes. While our expertise typically involves removing towering trees, this summer we put our crane skills to work hoisting massive bluefin tuna for the tournament’s dramatic weigh-ins.

The Blue Finn Blowout is far more than just a fishing competition. Since 2016, this tournament has raised over $2 million for the Alzheimer’s Association, making it a vital fundraising event for a cause that touches countless families. The 2024 tournament alone brought together 93 boats and raised $500,000, with 32 total fish weighing in at an impressive 14,176 pounds combined.
Presented by the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, the tournament spans multiple days each July, featuring a fundraiser bash, captain’s welcome dinner, public weigh-ins, and awards ceremony. The event creates a true community celebration, drawing fishing enthusiasts and supporters together at Gloucester’s historic waterfront.
