POINT OF INTEREST - The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck is a beautiful cultural and recreational complex located in the historic city of Rockport, MA. Originally part of Gloucester, the town developed a maritime industry and its granite and pine were shipped around the east coast. In more recent times, tourism has come to the town, but it still retains its old world charm. Visitors can stroll the historic streets of the town or explore the galleries and museums.
Attractions in this area include a fully restored Mayflower ship. The pilgrims’ journey from Plymouth to the new world was a three-month ordeal on board the 25-foot-wide ship. Now, visitors can see a full-size replica of this ship, known as the Schooner Adirondack III, and enjoy beautiful views of the city. For a unique experience, visitors can also tour the museum’s ship, the Schooner Adirondack III. Another great article here.
Another place to enjoy is the public gardens. The Public Garden is home to beautiful sculptures, tulips, and swans. Since 1877, swan boats have been held at the park. Visitors can also visit the statue of a mother duck with her ducklings. In addition to the public gardens, there is an annual Duckling Day Parade. On this day, the parade ends with the reading of a book by Boston native, Robert McCloskey.
There is also a Museum of Science. Here, visitors can explore the history and culture of the region. This museum features over 700 exhibits, including a giant IMAX dome screen. In addition, the museum features a 4D Cinema. Visitors can also enjoy the Public Garden, which is situated in the heart of the city. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by the Brattle Book Shop.
