Salem Pioneer Village
The Salem Pioneer Village is the oldest living history museum in the United States. Located at 98 West Ave, Salem, MA 01970. It was designed by George Francis Dow, a noted antiquarian architect who ensured that construction methods were consistent with those of the 17th century. Landscape architect Harlan Kelsey also contributed to the creation of the village. The village was reopened in 1990. The original purpose of the village was to commemorate Governor Winthrop’s arrival in Salem. The village features a replica of the ship on which Winthrop arrived in Salem.
The village is free to enter and contains many historic buildings that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
