The BCT had its share of problems recently. Former employees of the arts organization have filed lawsuits against the theater group and director, Burgess Clark. The lawsuit also named Solomon and three other former board members. Clark has repeatedly complained about the lack of payment and tried to get the state attorney general’s office involved, but to no avail. The BCT filed for bankruptcy in December, and the lawsuit is still pending.

The BCT is investigating allegations that the artistic director, 58-year-old David Clark, allegedly sexually touched three former students between 14 and 18 years old. The Boston Globe published the allegations, but the WBUR news station has not independently confirmed these claims. However, the accusations were made anonymously to the Beverly and Essex district attorney’s offices. After the accusations were made public, Clark resigned as artistic director.

The BCT is currently seeking financial support from the state of Massachusetts to keep the theater open. But the scandals are far from over. Clark is suing the Essex Community Theatre after allegations were made against him. He is seeking $45,000 in severance pay, six months’ worth of health insurance, and $182252 in unpaid wages. The BCT is looking for a new CEO and wants to avoid a bankruptcy hearing.
