Essex is a coastal town in Essex County, Massachusetts. It is 26 miles north of Boston and 13 miles southeast of Newburyport. The city is known for its shipbuilding history. The town’s population was 3,675 as of the 2020 census. The town is home to a variety of businesses and attractions.
The Essex River and the Castle Neck River feed the Essex Bay. There are a few low hills throughout the landscape, but most of the town is close to sea level.
