Essex 3

Essex MA is a coastal town in Essex County, Massachusetts, about 26 miles north of Boston and 13 miles south of Newburyport. The town was once an important shipbuilding center and its population was 3,675 as of the 2020 census. Today, the town is a thriving residential community with a wide variety of activities and events.

The house was originally built as a two-family dwelling in the 1790s. It is notable for having two large chimneys, a center entrance, and a large hearth. The original house consisted of twelve rooms and two halls, and had four pairs of stairs. The house was moved to a new location in the 1930s in order to accommodate a wider road through Essex. While Essex is now part of Ipswich, it was originally part of a parish. The town was incorporated as a town on Feb. 5, 1819, but many early residents were still part of Ipswich. The name Essex came from a group of two hundred and six men who petitioned the Massachusetts legislature for incorporation.

The town’s natural beauty is another reason to visit. It is home to many beautiful bodies of water. If you want to get out and enjoy the water, try a kayaking camp or a rafting adventure. If you’re a beginner, there are also lessons and guides available to help you learn how to kayak.

The Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum is another great place to spend time in the town. With four separate exhibits (an orientation center, waterline center, shipyard, and central schoolhouse), this museum is an excellent way to explore the town’s history. You’ll see pieces of machinery, tools, and other materials that were used to build ships in the past.

The only historic brick house in Essex was built by Proctor before the Revolutionary War. He also built many vessels with Courtney. The house was purchased by Moses Knowlton, whose heirs sold it back to Parkhurst. Parkhurst said he purchased it for sentimental reasons. Knowlton was a personal financer, promoter, and underwriter. He used pickled clams as collateral.
